Y.P.: You make a beautiful couple. When did you start dancing together? S.P.: I have known Lidia for nearly 3 years now. I joined the conservatory where Lydia has been currently studying and then during studies we had some stage performances in some of the subjects. They eventually chose couples, I mean according to the height, compatibility and so we met and now have been professionally on the stage for a year. This performance tonight is our first performance together for audience. Y.P.: Please, tell us about your dancing background. L.H.: I started when I was very small- 3 years old and have been dancing for very long time. I have been for 10 years at Prague Conservatory. This year is my last year there, next I will go to auditions to some companies and hope to be hired. I enjoy ballet. S.P.: I was first invited to this festival a year ago last August so it is my second year here and Lidia’s first . Y.P.: And how do you feel about it? L.H.: Oh, it is a very strange feeling. I have already had experience of dancing on a different stage and the feeling is- you did it- good.( smiles) Y.P.: Do you travel a lot? S.P.: Yes, we do. We travel a lot with our group Bohemia Ballet. It is one of the aspects of my career that I like very much. Our director Yaroslav Slavinsky loves travelling a lot. He loves experience of other cultures. He has and tries to find contacts all around the world. In March , for example, we were in Colombia*. This time for Christmas we are going to Japan, China. And we dance a lot in Prague on the stage for public. Y.P.: How often do you change your repertoire? L.H.: When I was very small I knew and liked very much only classical dance. Now when I grew older I realize that there is modern contemporary dance and like contemporary dance as well. I want to be a dancer who is familiar with different styles. I do a lot of classical dance but while on holiday in summer I am trying to do more contemporary . Y.P.: What about your future plans? Would you like to work for different international companies? S.P.: Yes, I think it is a dream of every dancer. It depends on how competitive you are. I would love to go abroad to work for different countries but it is about luck, professionalism and contacts. L.H.: Yes, it is very competitive. There are a lot of dancers and auditions. And it is hard to pass auditions, to get a contract as everybody is afraid that somebody else would take your place. S.P.: Everyone is so ambitious and fighting for a place, a permanent job. But it is a good thing- you first work on dance and then dance for work. Y.P.: Thank you Lidia and Stepan and good luck for you both! |
